The 1st round of the NASA-SE AI/AIX/CMC 2010 Season Championship got under way the weekend of Feb. 12-14 at Carolina Motorsport Park (CMP), despite the cold weather and major snow storm that came through Friday evening. Although the attendance in the groups was a little low, there was plenty of action on the track. AI:In AI, Ed McGuire, returning to AI after running in AIX the last 2 years, wasted no time as he was the dominant one of the weekend in his 1989 Mustang. Taking both the pole and win on Saturday and winning both the qualifying race and Sunday’s sprint race, he made it clear of his pursuit toward an AI regional championship. Not far behind was Landon Ball in his 1991 Camaro who secured the 2nd place spot in the Saturday and Sunday sprint races and 3rd in the Sunday morning qualifying race. Carl Wooten finished 3rd in Saturdays sprint race, Mark Reed took 2nd in the qualifying race, and Gregg Houseman would secure the 3rd place position in the final sprint race on Sunday. The 2nd round of the NASA-SE AI/AIX/CMC Championship goes to Road Atlanta on March 13-14 where the race groups are always large and the racing is always exciting. Until then, keep it between the lines! Respectfully Submitted, Ed McGuireAI/AIX/CMC/MC Director, NASA-SEAI/X #89 Submit Article |
