RICHMOND, CA (September 30, 2009) The National Auto Sport Association (NASA) is pleased to announce that Todd Covini has been selected to be the National Series Director for NASA’s American Iron® Series and Al Fernandez was recently chosen to take on the role of National Director for the Camaro Mustang Challenge.  Todd was one of the first members of NASA, was one of the founding fathers of the Camaro Mustang Challenge, and held the position of National Director for the Camaro Mustang Challenge from 1998-2001. Todd has also served as a Race Director at NASA’s National Championships for both the American Iron® and Camaro Mustang Challenge classes as well as working in professional race series in various positions. Todd will be taking over the National Director position from John Lindsey who was one of the creators of the series which began in 2001. Al joined NASA in 2001 and has been part of the Camaro Mustang Challenge leadership team since 2004. Al has also served as the Regional Series Director for AI and CMC in Texas and as a Series Director at NASA’s National Championships. Al follows Tony Guaglione who has led and grown the Camaro Mustang Challenge since 2001. “I am very excited to have Al and Todd in place to carry NASA’s ponycar series forward”, said John Lindsey NASA’s Chief Divisional Director. “Both of these guys have a deep understanding of the classes and they will be able to do great things building on their long experience with NASA and their ability to find common ground among very diverse groups of racers.” “I am looking forward to taking American Iron® to the next level and working on key challenges such as lowering the barrier to entry into the class, controlling costs and strengthening the relationship between NASA’s ponycar classes, AI & CMC”, added Covini. “My goal is to ensure that American Iron® racing has fun, fair, and consistent competition across the country.” Fernandez said that “I am very happy to be leading CMC now and we have an excellent team in place to ensure that CMC remains as an affordable entry level series for ponycar racers. This is an exciting time for the series and we hope to further the explosive growth we’ve seen in Texas over the past few years and spread it nationwide for 2010.” For more information on the American Iron® Series please visit www.americanironracing.com and the American Iron® section of www.nasaforums.com.
