Once again, Hyperfest brought a fantastic turnout to Summit Point Raceway on June 20th. Saturday's race started cleanly as the first two American Iron cars of Jimmy Bost and Randy Maits started side-by-side with qualifying times just two tenths apart. Frank Corkran was close behind followed by Loughrie, McCauley, and Grossnickle. In AIX, Winkler started up front followed closely by Chris Belieu, Brian Harris, and Ralph Sparveri. Winkler opened a lead on the rest of the AIX cars, while Bost, Maits, and Corkran ran nose to tail for most of the race. By lap 5 several of Summit Point's ten turns were littered with broken racecars. Winkler was never challenged for the lead in AIX. On lap 8, Bost hit some oil in Turn 3 and went off into the gravel. He was able to return to the racing surface without hitting but lost seveal positions. His damaged car was not able to keep up with the leaders. Maits took the top of the podium, followed by Corkran and Bost. In AIX, Winkler claimed another victory and Harris and Belieu rounded out the top 3. Sunday, the AI guys were joined by Jay Andrew who brought out his Hawk brake pads "demo car". Maits started first followed by Andrew and Bost in AI and Winkler, BeLieu, and Sparveri started up front in AIX. Andrew took the lead by the end of lap one and never looked back. Maits was able to fight off Bost for the entire 20 laps with lap times within a half second nearly the entire race. Sparveri again dropped out with mechanical issued and Winkler held off BeLieu for another AIX victory. Here's the latest points standings for Mid Atlantic
